BlackOut revisits Rediscover Scranton design

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

A few years ago, BlackOut was invited to help develop and market an exciting community development initiative, Rediscover Scranton. We’ve remained involved with the program and recently we had an opportunity to reflect upon how much Rediscover Scranton has grown during a refresh of our initial site design.

Rediscover Scranton is an initiative to promote the Greater Scranton area and its educational, cultural and business assets to professionals with ties to the area. They came to us looking for a site refresh that gave greater access to the full range of news they provide on the people, places and businesses that make up the Greater Scranton area. The new site design would also incorporate a BlackOut-designed blog, as well as information on their new partnership with POWER! Scranton.

POWER! Scranton is one of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s leading networking and social organizations for young professionals so the partnership with Rediscover Scranton was a natural fit.

Check out the results of BlackOut’s work at Rediscover Scranton or the Rediscover Scranton blog.

BlackOut Art Director recounts trip to Oakley

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

I am now at a point where the details have begun to blur together into passing glances and puffs of smokes on an event that can easily be looked upon as one of the best experiences I have had in my 30+ 1 years on this planet.  In late November 2008 Oakley inc. had announced a contest to repay all the loyal fans who have supported their brand with their own sheer insane love for the product.  Post a few pictures.  Answer a few questions.  Then sit back, relax and wait for the judging to begin.

For months I had to listen to my mom ask me every time we spoke, “Did you win yet?”  Finally when February 12 came I was able to call her and inform her that in mid March I was off to Southern California for a weekend in the sun at Oakley Interplanetary HQ with 49 other official Oakley Co-Pilots. BlackOut Art Director chosen for Marywood review

Monday, April 27th, 2009

BlackOut Art Director Phil Barket was invited to give back to his alma mater last week when Marywood University asked Phil to review the senior portfolios of graduating art students.

Phil was one of just four regional art director/editors invited chosen to review the Marywood seniors’ work and conduct interviews with the students.

The goal of the review was to equip the graduating students with interview experience as they prepare to enter the work force and to provide them feedback on their work from established professionals in the art/design industry.

BlackOut’s Green Clients

Friday, April 24th, 2009

This Earth Week, we’re focusing on our BlackOut clients who’ve made a commitment to environmental responsibility in pursuing their business goals.

Foremost among those is Cambrian Biotechnologies, maker of organic agricultural, health and beauty and animal products, all created from Ecklonia maxima kelp. Cambrian’s mission statement says it all:

“The Earth is ours to cherish”

Founder Stephen Pheiffer is a pioneer in the field of kelp processing and his commitment has remained the same since he started Cambrian – to offer uniquely effective products made from only natural, organic materials.

Cambrian products can help farmers make the transition to organic farming or help you go green in your own home garden or backyard.

Scranton Times spotlights BlackOut

Friday, April 10th, 2009

The Scranton Times recently spotlighted BlackOut Design as one of the companies that has largely weathered the economic downturn by employing an agile business model and by remaining committed to providing our clients value through all of our services.

Along with BlackOut President Jack Reager, the article quotes Austin Burke, president of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, and Teri Ooms, executive director of the Institue for Public Policy and Economic Development, who discuss the post-recession economic landscape of Northeastern Pennsylvania and how nimble, innovative businesses like BlackOut can lead the region’s recovery effort.

TRTS Launches Updated Websites in Conjunction with Fox Campaign

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Recently we were fortunate enough to work with the team at TR Technology Solutions (TRTS) and local agency Sweda Advertising to bring together a blended traditional and digital campaign for TRTS. BlackOut provided a website refacing for two of the TRTS lines of business and developed a Fox Pros Who Know web presence. These pieces will dovetail with the television campaign spearheaded by the team at Sweda.

April 1st Can Only Mean One Thing…

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Time for a new Google hoax. This year they embrace their take on AI, sort of. http://www.google.com/intl/en/landing/cadie/index.html

On January 12th 2009, the STT run (Standard Turing Test) confirmed behavior indistinguishable from that of a reasonable human being with above-average intelligence and 3.8 GPA (we’re still struggling to understand that missing .2; we suspect it points to fundamental flaws in the GPA system rather than CADIE.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to find these April Fool’s projects previously you might want to check out Wikipedia. I still think the world is ready for Google Gulp.
